29...and counting...

Today is my birthday.

I am 29 years old today.

Some of my friends thought that reaching (or even approaching) 30 meant their lives were over. I was even told by someone that he thought life was over at 20.

I've decided to take a different approach. As I think back through my 20s, I realized that I had both the heights and the depths of experiences. The 20s were not flawless, nor were they pain. However, I'm going to look forward to being (nearly) at a new threshold in my life.

Of course, I still have a year of being "in my 20s". I'll have to enjoy it, and not look too far into the future.

It reminds me of a book my high school English teacher read to us...it was called The Perfect Present. I think I would like to find that book again and read it. I probably would appreciate it more than I did when he read it to us (he and I did not get along in my high school career).

Yes...I'm 29 and I'm fabulous!

Trust me, brother, you've a long way to go. I'm fifty and I'm just coming out. BUt I keep telling myself, "It is never too late for new beginnings."

Your last post talked of "cleaning house" -- not a bad idea to celebrate the turning of another year.

From the Book of Common Prayer:

"O God, our times are in your hand: Look with favor, we pray, on your servant Ross as he begins another year. Grant that he may grow in wisdom and grace, and strengthen his trust in your goodness all the days of his life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Blessings, bro.

Cheers, Joe.

Happy birthday! I was ordained just a week or so after turning 29, so it was a great year. May many surprising things come your way, and don't forget to look for the blessings concealed in apparent problems.

I still have four months until I'm 29. Until then, I will refer to you as old. However, I still reserve the title of "Grandpa" for J. You can feel free to call him that if it will make you feel better.
